My Jacob

2002: Lord, please give me a Jacob -- someone who loves me as much as Jacob loved Rachel.

2008: Thank you Lord for giving me a Jacob. :-)

A wonderful love story

Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel was lovely in form, and beautiful. Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, "I'll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel."
Laban said, "It's better that I give her to you than to some other man. Stay here with me." So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.

Kunci

Dooh!

Love

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. [1 Co 13:4-7, NIV]

02.08.2008 ... finally.

I Stand in Awe

You are beautiful beyond description
Too marvelous for words,
Too wonderful for comprehension,
Like nothing ever seen or heard.

Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom?
Who can fathom the depth of Your love?
You are beautiful beyond description,
Majesty enthroned above.

And I stand, I stand, in awe of You.
I stand, I stand in awe of You.
Holy God, to whom all praise is due,
I stand in awe of You.

Conciseness

Found this line:
Conciseness is an important characteristic of good mathematical exposition.

Shouldn't be a surprise for someone who was titled 'the concluder' :P

Implicitly Explicit

A friend once said in a society where it is natural to say things implicitly, everyone involved would understand an implicit statement. Paradox lies behind the fact that by being implicit, one is actually being very explicit.

I am not much of an implicit person, but there are situations where I'd prefer to use non-so explicit words. And much to my own surprise, I kinda enjoy it!

Mathematicians = Lovers ?

"Mathematicians are like lovers .... Grant a mathematician the least principle, and he will draw from it a consequence which you must also grant him, and from this consequence, another." ---Fontenelle

Suppose the above premise is true, does it mean the worst lover one can get is a mathematician? ;-)

Bilingual Service

Have you ever attended a bilingual service? I have, several times. But the one I attended last Thursday was the first of its kind.

Usually 'bilingual' means translation is provided, that one could survive by understanding either. This one was special because in this particular service, 'bilingual' means it was assumed that all attendees are 'bilingual' -- able to understand both language! Some part of the service was done in Indonesian, other part in Bataknese. The solist also sang English songs. Hmm ... perhaps it should have been called a trilingual service. :D

Remember Thomas?

When I was in college, there was a particular T-shirt design, "Remember Peter?" under a picture of a rooster.

"Remember Thomas?" popped-up after my previous posting.

Mk 5:36

... Yesus ... berkata ... "Jangan takut, percaya saja!" [TB]
... Jesus ... said ..., "Do not be afraid; only believe." [NKJV]

Believing -- instead of being afraid -- is not as easy as saying it. There was a particular case that frightened me. I was anxious about it for almost a week. Last night God let me have a glimpse on what is going on. Indeed I need not be anxious at all. *blushing*
'Believing without seeing' is not that easy to do.

Different speed

What happen if three cars with three different speed are subject to a convoy?

\begin{eqnarray*}
   v_1 > v_2 > v_3 \\
   v_{convoy} = ?
\end{eqnarray*}

(What a LaTeX freak!)

Nothing is impossible

Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.
[Isaiah 43:18-19]

New Year's trip

My annual new year's journey has just ended. As usual, we were heading to Boja, Semarang. The last trip was adventurous. It had been raining heavily for days (as if somebody was flushing the toilet up there). Flood came. Ngawi was isolated. We had to travel through 'alternative road' to get to Sragen without entering Ngawi. Long and tiresome journey. Added to that, it was not easy to find gasoline for our car. The themes of this particular trip were: heavy rain, flood, and searching for pertamax).
